Welcome to May and the new Clarity Stamp Challenge 27 which is "Clocks"........So here we go with my take on this month's theme.
It took a while for this to all come together, but I hope you like it and find it inspirational!
Ingredients:
A Gelli-plate clean up using the Flower Power Stencil (inks used were Tim Holtz Mustard Seed re-inker in a spritz bottle and Clover Cosmic Shimmer Vintage Ink Spray Mist)
Re-mountable numbers & Woodpress letter kits
Medium & small Lamp post clear stamps
Lone Cypress Framer Stencil
Any Clarity framer stamp with an "O" in it (I used "Joy" for this project)
Cyclist from the Re-mountable Sport Set
Archival Black, Butterscotch Adirondack, Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers & Victorian Velvet
Talc & Clear embossing powder
Fresco Finish "Zesty Zing" acrylic paint, brayer & blending mat
Post-its
Clarity Stencil Brushes
Contrasting Spectrum Noir Colouring Pencils
Black Sharpie Pen
Pro-marker Grey shade 4
First stamp the 12 & 6 top & bottom of the flower, then the 3 & 9 for the quarter hours, then equally space out the rest of the numbers around the daisy.
Place the Lone Cypress Framer Stencil over the flower and using a Clarity brush and Mustard Seed distress ink, use circular movements around the edge to highlight. Remove the stencil and mark the middle of your clock to position the hands, (or in this case, the lamp posts!)
Stamp the lamp posts using a Post-it to ensure the base doesn't extend further than the centre.
Dust the card with talc then ink up the Joy (or any other) Framer, mask off the spare letters and stamp just the "O" under the clock and emboss with clear powder.
Now stamp and emboss the rest of the word
Bring on the Blending Mat, Brayer & Zesty Zing Fresco Paint - brayer lightly around the edges. Stamp the rest of the words and your racer, embossing as you go.
Next cut out a mask for the "O" and use the outie so that you can add some scenery behind the cyclist.
With the Sharpie pen draw a double line around the edge of the card to frame it and colour in random blocks as shown.
Except for the clock face, using Peacock Feathers, Butterscotch & Victorian Velvet inks, brush around sections of the card to fill in the whiter parts, then colour the daisy clock with yellow Spectrum Noirs.
Add some "Tick-Tock" words with the Sharpie pen and draw the same pattern on the inside edge of the "O".
Finally add some shadow using a grey Pro-Marker and mount on an 8x8 greeting card.
Hope you like the finished artwork, but I must just say when I started out I didn't imagine that a daisy clock and a cyclist would end up on the same card, but artist licence allows these sort of things to evolve!
Whatever you decide to have a go at, (be it crafting or otherwise), stick with it - things often turn out better than expected!
Happy crafting and good luck wherever your imagination takes you with Challenge 27.......I look forward to seeing all your creations. Crafty hugs to all, Carole P xxx
Good bit of work went into your card lovely x
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie - It took longer than normal for a card as it kind of "evolved" over several days - I kept putting it to one side, then an idea would come to me, so I'd work on it again, but I got there in the end xxx
ReplyDeleteCarole I love what you have done here thats a great use of a gelli print clean up. Its a great idea and the lamps for hands is a cool trick as is the race in the O. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda - it did take a while though, putting it to one side and pondering on "what next" LOL xxx
DeleteCarole this is a lovely card - a very clever take on the theme. Love how the separate elements have come together. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Angela - have a great evening :-) xxx
DeleteWonderful combination and super colours. Love the lamp posts as hands and very clear use of the Joy for the O in clock. Beautiful card
ReplyDeleteThanks Naomi - I love to use the whole spectrum....the brighter, the better for me! LOL xxx
DeleteA very clever design, Carole. I love the flower on the face of your clock and it was sheer genius to use the lamp posts as the clock hands. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Lesley - not sure about the genius though lol .....I spent ages looking through my folders to see what I could use for the clock hands.... the curly type stamps kept jumping out at me, but then I thought "well how on earth would you tell the time?!?!?" It's not even like it was a real clock, so I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered how precise it was, but hey, I got there in the end :-) xxx
DeleteCarole, many apologies for my tardy comment but although I wrote it earlier, somehow it did not publish, along with some others. And . . . It's just happened again! Grimace and blue air!!!
ReplyDeleteWell third time lucky!
Your composition is pure brilliance, along with your very informative step-by-step; glad you explained the cyclist's frame, too as it had me stumped. All in all, it's a wonderful piece of art from an extremely talented lady. ;~}
Thanks so much for your lovely feedback Shelagh - I think there's gremlins in here this month, Sazzle said when she clicks on my blog she sees Barbara's - I have no idea how to fix that as I can only see mine from my link! Hopefully it will fix itself - AND SOON!!!! lol
DeleteHave a lovely weekend xxx
Hi Carole. What a fabulous design piece. The colours, blending, stamping etc all go in to making one fabulous card. I love the way you have interpreted the theme. I think it works perfectly! And a brill step by step too! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Emma - isn't it amazing how we all interpret the theme so differently - it's a great mix of talent amongst us :-)
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend, and take it easy on that foot of yours! xxx
Fab design and until you said I would never have known that you had used lamp posts for clock hands......brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie....It's amazing what you can find in your stash to improvise when you don't have exactly what you need. I look forward to seeing your entry?
DeleteHappy crafting, Carole x
This is fabulous Carole. Ha ha teach me to read instructions though, kept looking to see where you had used lamp posts then realised they were hands of clock. Great idea to use the O from word to make another. Brilliant card. xx
ReplyDeleteHa ha Lynne - I try to speed-read things sometimes and miss crucial points. I do it all the time at work, then when I look back at emails, it's staring me in the face! lol
DeleteLook forward to seeing your creation this month. Good luck - have fun and let your imagination run riot! Carole x
Great design, great step-by-step - and how many of us have had to look twice and then scroll down through the instructions to find out where the lamp posts come into it!?! An inspired idea to make the clock hands that way! Just goes to show how versatile the stamps are and we should all be encouraged to "think outside the box"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
Thank you Jomada - yes, definitely look through all your stamps for inspiration. I was scratching my head for ages as I only have the side-view fob watches and I didn't really have any ideas using them. If you start with just one circular thing (mine was the daisy from my stash), creations kind of evolve.
DeleteI hope you'll have a go at this month's challenge and have fun creating your artwork. Good luck, Carole x
Great tutorial and a great card. Thank you for your visit and lovely comments on my offering. It is one of the few cards I actually planned out properly to start with. xx Maggie
ReplyDeleteThat looked as though it took a lot of planning Maggie - you made a great job of it.....I don't think it was a particularly easy one this month, but there have been some great ideas from everyone xxx
